1UP Hydration Plus 101 (2024)

Proper hydration plays a critical role in workout performance, injury prevention, and recovery.[1] It’s important for high-level athletes as well as everyday fitness enthusiasts looking to build muscle, lose fat, or complete a transformation challenge. The issue is that most people, even competitive athletes, don’t realize that they are not adequately hydrated.

Minor dehydration (also known as hypohydration) stresses the cardiovascular system and reduces physical capacity, thereby increasing your risk for musculoskeletal injury.[2] Additionally, a 2015 meta-analysis noted that minor dehydration resulted in an average drop off in muscle strength by 5.5% and anaerobic power by 5.8%.[3] A prior meta-analysis note that endurance also declines ~10%.[14]

All of this is to say that making sure you’re adequately hydrated is paramount to pushing hard in your workouts, limiting injury risk, and living a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Drinking enough fluids is a key part of proper hydration, but water alone won’t cut it. Your body also needs certain minerals to help your body store and transport that water throughout your body.

You may know these minerals better by their other name -- electrolytes.

1UP Hydration Plus is our best-selling electrolyte supplement formulated to help you support your hydration requirements so that you can train harder, recover quicker, and get the results you want!

1UP Hydration Plus Ingredients

At the heart of 1UP Hydration Plus are electrolytes.

What Are Electrolytes?

Electrolytes are charged minerals that play a role in many essential processes in the body.

In addition to supporting hydration, electrolytes also are involved in (but not limited to):

  • Nerve impulse conduction
  • Muscle contraction
  • Regulating heartbeat
  • Regulating pH levels in the body

1UP Hydration Plus includes four specifically-dosed electrolytes in sodium, chloride, magnesium, and potassium. In addition to these four vitally important minerals, every serving of 1UP Hydration Plus also provides…

Taurine

Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that serves a number of functions in the body, including that of an osmolyte and antioxidant. Osmolytes are organic molecules that help the body’s cell to absorb more water, which supports hydration as well as exercise performance. Other well-known osmolytes include betaine, which is found in 1UP Stim Free Pre Workout as well as Pure Rebuild, and glycerol.

Taurine has been rigorously investigated by exercise scientists and found to significantly improvement peak power, average power and minimum power compared to placebo.[5]

A more recent 2022 meta-analysis, including 16 studies, regarding the effects of taurine on aerobic and anaerobic performance concluded that the amino acid was “effective for jumping performance and TTE [time-to exhaustion].”[6]

To top it off, taurine has been found to offer benefits both acutely and when taken consistently.[7]

Essential Vitamins

Vitamins are important micronutrients that are required for countless processes throughout the body, including energy production, neurotransmitter synthesis, immune support, and exercise performance. While it’s possible to get these from a well-rounded diet as well as a multivitamin, such as Multi-Go Men and Multi-Go Women, those of us with very active lifestyles (training 4-5 times per week in addition to lots of daily movement) have increased micronutrient requirements.

For these reasons, 1UP Hydration Plus includes a trio of vitamins that specifically support exercise performance and muscle recovery in:

  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin C

Coconut Water Powder

Coconut water is rich in a host of micronutrients, including one of the key electrolytes affecting fluid balance in the body -- potassium. 1UP Hydration Plus includes a robust 500mg of coconut water powder, delivering premium quality, natural hydration support.

Pink Himalayan Salt

Harvested from one of the oldest salt mines in the world, pink Himalayan salt is considered by many to be one of the best natural sources of sodium on Earth. In addition to providing high-quality sodium to support hydration, pink Himalayan salt also contains a variety of other micronutrients, including magnesium, iron, potassium and calcium

Hydration Guidelines

The National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) recommends the following practices regarding hydrating properly before training or competition:

  • Begin a training session well hydrated by drinking approximately 500-600 ml (16-20 ounces) of water or sports drink 2-3 hours before exercise
  • Drink an additional 200-300 ml (~6.5-10 ounces) of water or a sports drink 10-20 min before exercise

Hydration Plus FAQ

Do I Need Electrolytes if I Am Not Having Muscle Cramps?

Many individuals neglect consistent electrolyte replenishment because they've never had cramping problems. However, just because your muscles aren’t cramping during workouts (or in the hours following your workouts), that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re adequately hydrated. Remember, electrolytes are involved in hundreds (if not thousands) of biological processes. Muscle contraction and relaxation are only two functions of electrolytes.

Can I Just Use Salt Tablets?

Salt tables only two of the electrolytes your body requires - sodium and chloride. Consuming too much sodium and not enough of the other electrolytes can affect fluid balance and regulation in the body as well as other more severe consequences that may negatively impact performance and overall health.

When Can I Use Hydration Plus Electrolytes?

You can have a serving of Hydration Plus anytime of day.

Mix up a serving first thing after waking sip on it throughout the morning so that your replenishing fluids lost overnight and ready for your workout later in the day. You may also have a serving during or after your workout to help replenish water and electrolytes that were used during training.

Can I Stack Electrolyte Supplements with Other 1UP Supplements?

Yes.

1UP Hydration Plus is stimulant-free and can be combined with our pre workout supplements, amino acid supplements, or collagen peptides.
